If you’re a fan of nu-metal and think back fondly to the days when those sounds were crawling in your skin and downloading the shockwaves to your brain, then I sure hope you were rocking out with us in Potchefstroom over the weekend.. If not, you definitely missed out! Here’s a breakdown of what was up on April the 18th:
First of all, if you’ve never been to Snowflake before, it’s a venue unlike any other. The very walls are adorned with rustic memories, imbuing the building with an essence and attitude that’ll transport you to another time.
This past Saturday, it attracted all sorts of folks; from young bloods to veterans, from the immensely cool to the utterly chaotic. All were there to celebrate some of the most iconic songs of the past few decades.
Meteora Linkin Park Tribute and 3 Dollar Bill Limp Bizkit Experience were ready to raise the roof! With fans reeling from the rhythm and rocking to the rhyme, both bands certainly didn’t disappoint and put on powerful performances, doing justice to the original artists and providing solid renditions of tracks like “Crawling”, “In the End”, Rollin’”, and “My Generation”.
I must admit, I was very impressed by the crowd; it’s been a while since I’ve had a night out partying in Potch and man, it still gets as wild as I remember! The metal maniacs, the fantastical fun seekers, the sexy, the sleazy, the drunk, and the dreamy; all gathered together, stirring up a stellar time. I saw groups of friends singing and dancing together, shirtless dudes colliding in sweaty mosh pits, and even some girls crying to their favourite verses.
Local band, Kerk Straat kicked things off with a mix of original and cover tunes, and the support from their fellow Potch pals warmed the heart, as well as the venue. That being said, things were starting to heat up; and with good reason, because up next was Die Gemeente. These blokes from Pretoria turned it up to 11 and broke it right back down to the ground with their crushing brand of nu metalcore.
All the while, France the Planet bridged the silences between sets with some of the most killer rock and metal classics from his desk. He was MC at the event and really kept the crowd pumped throughout with his larger than life personality.
It was a night some won’t remember, but a night most won’t forget.
