Doomtrigger – Heresy

From the mountain-and-vine stronghold of Stellenbosch, Doomtrigger continue their descent through Dante’s Inferno with the second chapter of their Circles trilogy. Circles: Part II gathers the earlier singles Greed and Anger (River of Hate) before unleashing the brand-new closer, Heresy, dropped on the 9th of October 2026.

This is Doomtrigger at their most aggressive. The track wastes little time on niceties—punishing riffs and thunderous drums charge forward like a torrent of contempt, while some synths and samples establish an atmosphere; all while well-placed, layered vocal dynamics create a delicious tension.

Themes of dogma, conviction, and modern existential dread swirl beneath the surface, giving the song a sense of spiritual warfare that feels both ancient and uncomfortably contemporary.

Musically, it hits like a hammer—heavy, groove-laden, and unforgiving; while still carrying those elevated hooks and melodic soundscapes that have become a signature of the band. The production keeps everything dense and impactful, letting the aggression hit hard without sacrificing immersion.

Heresy concludes the potent midpoint in the trilogy—brutal, atmospheric, and thoroughly South African in its intensity. This quartet is solidifying their place at the forefront of modern local metal and whilst they spiral us down the central layers for now, I’m certain that the final descent into Circles: Part III will be something to dreadfully look forward to.

Dwell in Darkness. Live in Light.
