Known for their blend of sinewy metallic Hard Rock and Alternative, the latest single by Diverted Disorder entitled ‘Portraits’ is not so much a departure from their rollicking back catalogue as it is a lilting piece of melancholic and soulful music that has a sense of sonic cohesion lacking in some of their previous songs.
‘Portraits’ displays Diverted Disorder doubling down on their melodious bent with a song that straddles the divide between a ballad and a smoldering piece of bluesy, Grunge oriented lounge Rock that is both maudlin and bristling with hope.
Featuring Hardman on guitar and vocals, Kheel on guitar, Chris on drums and vocals and Prometheus on Bass and vocals, Diverted Disorder are a dynamic four piece who conjure forth music of the most passionate sort and nowhere is this more evident then on their latest single ‘Portraits’.
Beginning with a shuffling confluence of sorrowful yet rousing melodies, haunting strumming, subtle drumming and husky vocals, ‘Portraits’ draws us in with its magnetic yet haunting aural narrative.
With lyrics such as “I sold my soul in the park around 3am’’ and “I don’t want to feel anymore, I’m broken, bruised and dying inside’’, the opening verse introduces the listener to a tale steeped in self-destruction and degradation. As hypnotic as it is catchy, said verse is undeniably heart wrenching.
As ‘Portraits’ continues to unfurl its sonic narrative, fluidly changing its tone from melancholic, to self reflective and rousing, one is spirited away on a story that ends up being an inspiring tale of change, self development and progress, albeit the type founded in sacrifice and sorrow.
Ending with the lyrics ‘’Can You Hear Me, I am praying my last prayer, As I walk away from the person I used to be’’ the desperation threaded through said lines is accompanied by a wash of receding guitar, bass, drums and impassioned vocals.
Out now for your listening pleasure, be sure to give a listen to the poignant and evocative piece of music that is ‘Portraits’ posthaste.
