PUNK-PUNK-PUNK…
If you weren’t at AJ’s Pub for the event last Saturday eve, you certainly missed out on a night of immense music and madness, but stick around and find out how it all went down.
As people started arriving in the dwindling light left over from a hot day, the electricity in the air was becoming palpable. Celebration in the form of liquor and laughter was on everyone’s lips, as souls rekindled and eagerly awaited the first band of the night to break the chatter.
Eventually, our patience was rewarded when we heard the first stirrings from upon the stage – It was Burn Outs greeting us with their brand of garage rock. With a calm, comedic, yet commanding stage presence; it was a cool and very enjoyable performance. A couple of songs in, they reminded me of a more aggressive version of The White Stripes and if being a two-piece band with female drummer wasn’t enough, they then proceeded to rock their own rendition of Good to Me. We were provided with ample entertainment to kick the night off, that’s for sure.
Next up, was the Mean x Girls quintet. Now, these skate-punkers have made quite a name for themselves in recent history, which comes as no surprise – with their loud and political voice, diving dauntlessly into the minds of all who hear the sound of their rebellion. Mean x Girls make some serious waves and are a treat to watch. If you haven’t checked them out, I would strongly advise it!
After a very short reprieve, Grift was locked and loaded – ready to bombard their audience with crushing riffs, aggressive vocals, and heavy grooves. We were ready too! As they slammed their arsenal of hardcore right into our faces, we rejoiced. It was glorious! The quality of this collective is truly something special – from the actual songwriting and tone of the instruments, to the stellar delivery and performance; Grift is without a doubt one of the most talented acts out there! Relentless, tasty, and oooh so tight…
Those of us, who weren’t utterly destroyed through the course of the event, used the vigour still left in our veins to close out the evening in good company and merry conversation.
A big shout-out to AJ’s Pub for hosting and making the event possible, to the bands – Burn Outs, Mean x Girls, and Grift; and to everyone who participated in and supported the experience.
Love, LV.
