On ‘Yantra Creating’ 7 H. TARGET unleash a tidal wave of turbulent Death Metal that is threaded together with a tapestry of Tech oriented brutality and experimental, middle eastern motifs.
This, their debut for the legendary Willowtip Records is a devastating statement of destructive intent that draws upon Hindu cosmology in subject matter and in sound; buttressing atmospheric melody driven slices of smoulder such as “Shiva Yajur Mantra” up against bludgeoning slabs of heaving Brutal Death Metal such as “Brahmastra”.
The jagged time signatures, twisted layering and tumultuous tempo changes that prevail throughout this punishing album come across as a head on collision between vintage Yattering; think the warped experimentalism of ‘Genocide’ and the no frills ferocity of classic Katalepsy.
Opening track “Aghori” is a no holds barred piece of ferocious Brutal Death Metal that barrels forward with unbridled fury, heading into the sonic incineration chamber that is “Askeza”.
The quality of this crushing album is without question. The instrumentation, attention to detail, pacing and composition are of the highest calibre.
Witness the wicked, barbed wire riffs and angular bluster of “Fire And Places For His Work” and be set adrift in a morass of malevolent rhythmic bliss where mantra like chants seep into a smorgasbord of riff borne, double kick fuelled mania.
Everything about this massive album is praise worthy and I am smitten by the simultaneously pulverizing and ethereal pieces that are peppered throughout ‘Yantra Creating’ like shrapnel on a battlefield where flames dance upon charred corpses in sepia tinged landscape. Simply put this is a superb album that deserves to be experienced posthaste.
